This vaccination helps to prevent the severe forms of pneumococcal disease, which is the term used to describe a range of illnesses such as pneumonia, septicaemia (blood poisoning) and meningitis (inflammation around the brain).
This is not the same as the influenza vaccine (flu jab) but it can help to prevent some of the dangerous complications that can arise from all strains of flu.
The pneumococcal vaccination is only given once unless you go on to develop a serious condition; if you think you have had this injection before, please let us know and do not come for another one.
If you turn 65 between 1st April 2015 and 31st March 2016 you will have been sent an invite to attend for your vaccine. Please contact reception to arrange an appointment.
